Cassie1
Cassie2

Little Cassie-Mouse (ARPH #12600) came to us from Indiana where she had been running stray for what probably was a very long time.  She is such a frightened little mousey that, though the shelter gave her the name Cassie, we just had to call her Mouse.  She's a blue merle with a lovely coat, a white blaze and white chest and paws.  She has a full feathery tail.  When we first got her, she was so frightened that a lot of her hair fell out.  Now it's growing in curly and thick and will someday be a full Aussie coat, we're sure.  She’s just a beautiful girl.

We're also quite sure that Mouse was treated cruelly because she flinches at just about everything, especially if we raise our hand to throw a ball or stick.  She runs and hides and peeks around to see if the coast is clear before she comes creeping out again.  She wants very much to be your friend and, after about 6 weeks in our loving care, she will now nose our hand for more petting.  Every once in a while she'll wag her pretty tail now; but for the longest time, it was firmly stuck between her legs.

She's a gentle, gentle soul, good with children and fine with other dogs, though if they act too silly and wild she'll jump up and give them a bark.  She has started running with her foster dad and will trot right along unless something very frightening like a flapping flag makes her stop in her tracks.  She's strong and healthy now, spayed and cured of a nasty abscess in her mouth which necessitated the removal of one back molar.  Now that the plaque has been cleaned from her teeth, she sits patiently while her foster mom gives her a good tooth brushing every day.

Cassie-Mouse weighs about 35 pounds and is between 5 and 7 years old.  She's located in Park Ridge.

She will be a good friend to someone who will enjoy helping a very frightened dog come out of her shell and who will feel gratified by seeing her slow but sure progress.  You should know that she has no vision in her left eye.  The vet thinks that this is a congenital condition that doesn't cause her any discomfort.  So we just keep the eye clean, you’d never know that she had this condition, as it does not affect her at all.

If you are an approved adopter and would like to talk with Cassie-Mouse's foster parents and then possibly meet this sweet girl, let Missy know at missycramer@gmail.com.  If you are not yet an approved adopter please fill out our adoption application at www.aussierescue.org. (listed 04/20/11)

New Spirit Rescue Dogs

The following are New Spirit Rescue program dogs. Don't wait until you see a dog that interests you; visit New Spirit for an application now! Then you will be pre-approved when the right dog is available.

Wangaretta1
Wangaretta2
Wangaretta3

Special Needs (deaf and blind) pup

Wangaretta (NS #1018) is a lethal white blue merle Australian Shepherd male. He is mostly white, with a few spots near his back end. He is both deaf and blind, but actually gets around quite well. I think it is easy to underestimate his abilities, but don’t let the lack of hearing and vision make you think less of him. He uses his nose a lot, and I noticed he has more trouble navigating in our backyard after a rain, so he must be highly scent dependent.

He will come to vibration (we stomp our foot or clap loudly) and can also sit and down. He is just exceptionally smart. He is also very laid back, mellow, and just a fluffy lover boy. I think he could definitely learn to follow your scent on a walk, and he is able to navigate a full flight of stairs with no problem. Because of his underdeveloped eyes, he might have to be watched in the sun, but other than that he is very healthy (and a terrific eater!).

He is the biggest of the litter; a week ago he was 15.1 pounds. I really think given his personality and his smarts he will make a very, very good pet, so don’t count him out. Unlike most Aussies, he would likely do well in a small house or apartment. He spends lots of time sitting in my lap as I work on the computer- and that might become a problem when he reaches his full 45-50 pounds! Wangaretta is being fostered in central Illinois. Special Needs/Lethal White Information

Rosalie3
Rosalie4
Rosalie5

Special Needs

Rosalie (NS #0860) is a 1 year old lethal white Australian Shepherd who is deaf, with maybe a limited ability to hear; she has her vision though it is less then a full-sighted Aussie. Rosalie is a very trusting soul, she gives you 100% of her faith and lets you add or take that trust away.

Rosalie is a great companion, she loves attention and loves to roll on her back and get the most Aussome belly rubs, shewould be happy to stay there all day awaiting them. Rosalie gets along well with everyone and with other dogs. She would be best with a fenced-in yard and another dog as a companion to help her know when to alert or to know that there is another living thing in her world. You see, like with many lethal whites, companionship is a very important component of her life.

Rosalie is being fostered in central Illinois and is waiting to meet and for you to fall in love with her. Complete an application today at New Spirit 4 Aussie Rescue. Reference NS 0860 when inquiring. Contact David at
david.e.thurman@gmail.com with questions. (listed 07/03/11)

Australian Shepherd Rescue Midwest (ASRM)

The following are ASRM program dogs. Don't wait until you see a dog that interests you; contact David at david.e.thurman@gmail.com for an application now! Then you will be pre-approved when the right dog is available.

Rascal1

Meet Rascal (ASRM #0017), an older 7 year old black tri Aussie/Border Collie mix, who is up to date on all her shots and already spayed. She weighs around 45 pounds, and is ready for a home.

Rascal loves kids and rides in a car, and gets along with everyone she meets.

If you are interested in adopting this cute Aussie mix, please complete an application at Australian Shepherd Rescue Midwest, reference ASRM 0017. Contact David at david.e.thurman@gmail.com. (listed 08/21/11)

Cookie1
Cookie2

Meet a super sweet treat, our very own Australian Shepherd Rescue Midwest Cookie (ASRM #0010), though we don't suggest you take a bite, as all you will taste is hair. But our Cookie is a real neat treat. She is on the small side at 30 pounds, and she is great with her foster brother. Cookie is up to date on all her shots and is awaiting her spay.

Cookie likes walks, and rides in a car. She gets along with other dogs, cats and enjoys people. She was a candidate for the last walk when we were called to rescue her. She has proven to not be a mistake for us, and we think she would make a great companion to a older person, who is looking for a friend for those hot summer nights or blistering cold winter days, either way our Cookie is the one for you.

Complete an application today at Australian Shepherd Rescue Midwest today and reference ASRM 0010. Contact David at david.e.thurman@gmail.com. (listed 08/21/11)

Belle1
Belle2

Meet Belle (ASRM #0011), a very confident 2 year old female black tri Australian Shepherd. Belle is up to date on all her shots and is spayed.

Belle gets along well with other dogs in the home, at the dog park and on walks, she does seem to feel she should protect her property line though, and will alert and possibly charge out to deter any dogs that are near the property. We are suggesting a fenced in yard and no invisible fence for this girl. We are working on this behavior.

Belle loves walks and rides in a car, and she loves to carry a tennis ball around as a round companion.

To adopt this Belle of the ball, complete an application at Australian Shepherd Rescue Midwest today and reference ASRM 0011. Contact David at david.e.thurman@gmail.com. (listed 08/21/11)

Privately Referred Dogs

The following dogs are listed as a courtesy to other rescues, shelters, and private individuals looking to place a dog. Any adoption resulting from these listings is a matter solely between the lister and potential adopter.
